Joint press release of shipzero GmbH and Kombiverkehr GmbH & Co. KG
(Frankfurt/Main, April 29, 2025) Kombiverkehr KG and the Hamburg-based software company shipzero are now working together on the accounting of transport emissions. ‘On the one hand, this is due to the increasing requirements of freight forwarding companies, which are becoming more and more reliant on rail emissions due to sustainability reporting,’ says Jan Weiser, Head of Corporate Communications at Kombiverkehr KG, explaining this step for the Frankfurt-based intermodal operator. At the start of 2025 in particular, the company has again received an increasing number of requests for emissions statistics from customers for transport operations in the last financial year. ‘As a provider of climate-friendly transport solutions, we also have a vested interest in demonstrating the particular environmental benefits of rail transport with tangible facts and promoting the use of sustainable rail transport,’ continues Weiser.
In shipzero, Kombiverkehr has found a partner that has the relevant expertise and whose calculation methodology fulfils both the current GLEC standard and the ISO 14083 standard. "We are naturally delighted to have gained Kombiverkehr as a key player in intermodal transport as a partner. By working together, we want to precisely track transport processes in order to give the advantage of rail a further boost through increased CO2 transparency," explains Martin Jacobs, Director Client Solutions at shipzero.
Following a conceptual phase, the cooperation partners have now started the current project by providing order data, which shipzero receives from Kombiverkehr in anonymised form. The development and set-up of the calculation logic for Kombiverkehr transports is now being implemented by shipzero. The emissions data calculated by shipzero will then be automatically imported into Kombiverkehr's order processing system on a daily basis. The environmental balances will be transferred to downstream IT applications with customer access via interface solutions. ‘The meinKOMBIVERKEHR portal is a perfect place for this, among other things,’ says Weiser, giving an initial preview of what the operator's customers can expect. The two companies are planning to provide emissions balances for Kombiverkehr customers retroactively based on transports from the beginning of 2025.

Together for more climate protection in the transport chain: Hamburg-based company shipzero and Kombiverkehr KG are working closely together on transport emissions balancing. The aim is the order-based calculation and visualisation of CO2 emissions in the Frankfurt-based operator's customer IT applications.
