• Regensburg Container Terminal expands its range of services to Italy

(Frankfurt am Main, 7 September 2026) Kombiverkehr KG is expanding its European network this autumn. Three new international routes are being introduced and one domestic route is being significantly expanded. In doing so, the Frankfurt-based company is increasing flexibility for freight forwarders and logistics firms and creating additional options for shifting freight transport to rail. “An efficient network depends on the terminals in the region, the national and international connections, and the train frequencies matching our customers’ needs. In particular, the higher frequency of departures on established routes and the new connections to Sweden, Spain and Italy give freight forwarders greater flexibility when planning their shipments,” says Dirk Steffes, Managing Director of Kombiverkehr KG.

Direct from Duisburg to Malmö via Denmark
The Duisburg–Malmö route (and vice versa) forms a new component of transport services to Northern Europe. From 2 September 2026, two round trips per week will initially be available. From January 2027, the service is set to double to four round trips per week. A distinctive feature of the new service is the direct rail link without the need for ferry transport. This provides customers with a climate-friendly rail transport option for their goods and cargo via Denmark, even over long distances. One example is the end-to-end transport from Barcelona via Duisburg and Malmö to Stockholm or Hallsberg with just a single booking.

Five round trips instead of three between Cologne and Basel
From 7 September 2026, Kombiverkehr will increase the frequency on the Cologne–Basel route (and vice versa) from three to five round trips per week. The transit time is usually between eleven and thirteen hours. From Cologne-Eifeltor, there are rail connections to and from other business centres in Germany and Northern Europe. The additional capacity, equivalent to two-thirds of the current freight volume, improves planning certainty for dispatch and offers customers on this important route between the Rhineland and southern Germany or Switzerland greater choice regarding weekly dispatch days. With this announced expansion of services, the company has responded at a very early stage to the exceptional situation caused by low water levels in the Rhine.

Regensburg – Verona v.v. expands services to Northern Italy
Services between Germany and Northern Italy are also being expanded. From 8 September 2026, the combined transport operator will offer its customers two round trips per week on the Regensburg – Verona Quadrante Eropa route (and vice versa). This will connect the CTR Container Terminal Regensburg to Kombiverkehr KG’s European intermodal network for the first time.

New rail service: Neuss – Barcelona Morrot and return
From 5 October 2026, the new Neuss – Barcelona Morrot and return service will commence, operating three round trips per week. This new route complements the existing service offering on the route to the Iberian Peninsula between Ludwigshafen and Barcelona, and between Duisburg and Barcelona La Lagosta. Via the Neuss Trimodal terminal, cargo units can be transferred directly onto the train to Poznan in Poland. Within Spain, Constanti and Madrid can be reached by rail from Barcelona.
