- Successful collaboration and project implementation between shipzero and Kombiverkehr KG
(Frankfurt am Main, 6. July 2026) Kombiverkehr KG and the Hamburg-based software company shipzero have successfully implemented their joint project to account for transport emissions. Following an intensive design, development and implementation phase, the new IT solution has now officially gone live.
“With the successful completion of the project, we have reached an important milestone towards greater transparency in intermodal transport,” explains Jan Weiser, Head of Corporate Communications at Kombiverkehr KG. “We are now providing our customers with up-to-date and accurate emissions data for every transport operation carried out by Kombiverkehr, thereby meeting the increasing requirements for reporting.” Over the past few months, the necessary data structures have been created, calculation logic developed and interfaces implemented. shipzero’s methodology is certified by the Smart Freight Centre, is fully aligned with the international Global Logistics Emission Council Framework V3 and complies with the ISO 14083 standard. This means that customers of the Frankfurt-based combined transport operator now receive emissions figures for rail transport based on the latest calculation standards for their sustainability reporting.
“Together with Kombiverkehr, we have created a solution that brings transparency to the transport chain and makes the environmental benefits of rail clearly quantifiable,” says Martin Jacobs, Director of Client Solutions at shipzero, who believes data quality plays a major role in the implementation of such projects. “We are constantly working on the granularity of transport information and its processing in order to obtain precise emission figures for each order and transport leg,” Jacobs continues. Via the new interfaces between the two companies, Kombiverkehr sends order data to shipzero every night. The CO₂e emissions are then calculated. The order data, enriched with emissions figures, is automatically fed back into Kombiverkehr’s order processing system and is made available via further interfaces for downstream IT applications accessible to customers.
The meinKOMBIVERKEHR customer portal plays a key role in this. Users of the portal who have authorisation for the ‘Order Overview’ now have access to the emissions figures for each transport order – just 24 hours after the relevant transport has been completed. There are two ways to analyse this data: the order overview displays emissions for climate-friendly rail transport, intermodal transport (including modelled road pre- and post-carriage), and the hypothetical environmental benefit in the order details. Using the new ‘Emissions Accounting’ tool, emissions for multiple transport orders can also be summarised with just a few clicks. Freight forwarders can thus quickly obtain comprehensive emissions figures, which they can filter, select and process as required. To present the emissions savings visually, it is also possible to integrate the company’s own logo and generate an emissions certificate as a PDF document. The emissions figures are available for transport orders from the last 24 months.

Working together for greater climate protection in the transport chain: The Hamburg-based company shipzero and Kombiverkehr KG are collaborating closely on the accounting of transport emissions.

Thanks to the partnership with shipzero, Kombiverkehr’s customers can view the CO₂e emissions for each transport order on the meinKOMBIVERKEHR portal just 24 hours after the transport has been completed.

About Kombiverkehr:
Founded in 1969, Kombiverkehr Deutsche Gesellschaft für kombinierten Güterverkehr mbH & Co. KG develops, organises and markets an international rail network for intermodal transport, enabling freight forwarders and transport companies to intelligently combine the advantages of rail, road and sea transport. To ensure the economical, safe and environmentally friendly transport of goods, Kombiverkehr offers more than 170 train departures with over 15,000 connections per night across Europe. The limited partnership’s shareholders comprise around 220 national and international freight forwarders and transport companies, as well as DB Cargo AG. The company, based in Frankfurt am Main, shifted a total of over 665,000 lorry consignments (1.33 million TEU) from road to rail in 2025, thereby sparing the environment one million tonnes of climate-damaging carbon dioxide emissions. Its 131 employees generated a turnover of 398 million euros.
